Why is climate important to daily self care?

Why does climate matter

The area where you live has its own distinct climate and weather pattern; there are many difference between the areas in which we all live. Everything from windy deserts, tropical rain forests, temperate rain forests, to snowy mountain ranges exist all over our planet. Depending on where you live adapting to the weather is an important part of not only staying alive but securing your best health possible over your life time. Each climate has a dominant doshic influence in which it creates excess energy within that dosha. For instance I live along the New England coast, the climate is Vata (heavy coastal winds) and Kapha (cold damp rain and snow). If a person does nothing to pacify the excess energy from where they live the person will eventually become imbalanced in that dominant dosha. As an Ayurvedic practitioner from coastal New England I see a lot of people with a Vata/Kapha imbalance which was driven by the weather over their lifetime. In case you are wondering a Vata/Kapha imbalance usually appears as someone who is over weight (Kapha) but also has an anxious stressed mind (Vata). To bring this energy back into balance the opposite quality of heavy moist heat for Vata and light dry heat for Kapha are needed. It is very difficult to create opposite qualities at the same time; this would require the expert guidance from an Ayurvedic Practitioner to unwind this difficult imbalance.

There is a lot to consider on how your age and climate affect you personally; how well you manage your personalized daily self care program is the secret to anti aging. Here are some recommendations to help you choose a more favorable climate based on your dominant dosha. A pitta person would do well to live in a cooler temperate rain forest with more cloudy raining weather, as pitta people age they tend to dry out and they age faster when they are exposed to too much sun and heat. A Kapha person would do well to live in a warmer dry climate like a desert with dry wind and sun, because as kapha people age they tend toward heaviness and weight gain and with too much damp rainy weather they easily become overweight and depressed. A Vata dominant person would do well to live in a tropical moist climate like the southern United States because as Vata people age they dry out and get wrinkles so a warm moist environment is best for them. There is no need to worry if you find yourself living in an unfavorable climate consider consulting with an Ayurvedic Practitioner. An Ayurvedic practitioner will analyze your imbalances and create a daily self care routine that balances your dosha, age and climate so you can live a longer healthier life.
